Why Is The Price Of ADSS Cable Related To The Voltage Level?

Many customers ignore the voltage level parameter when choosing ADSS cable. When ADSS cable was first put into use, The voltage level commonly used in conventional distribution lines was also stable in the range of 35KV to 110KV. The polyethylene sheath of ADSS optical cable was enough to play a certain protective role.

However, in recent years, The requirements for power transmission distance have been greatly improved, and the corresponding voltage level has also been improved a lot. Distribution lines above 110KV have become a common choice for design units, which has put forward higher requirements for the performance (anti-electric tracking) of ADSS fiber cable. As a result, AT sheath (anti-electric tracking sheath) has been officially widely used.

The use environment of ADSS fiber cable is very harsh and complex. First of all, it is laid on the same tower as the high-voltage line and runs near the high-voltage transmission line for a long time. There is a strong electric field around it, which makes the outer sheath of ADSS optical cable very easy to be damaged by electrocorrosion. Therefore, in general, when customers understand the price of ADSS fiber cable, we will ask about the voltage level of the line in order to recommend the most suitable ADSS fiber cable specifications.

Of course, the performance requirements of AT sheath (anti-electric tracking) also make its price slightly higher than PE sheath (polyethylene), which also leads some customers to consider the cost and think that it is OK as long as it can be installed normally, and will not consider the impact of voltage level more.

Last week, I received a call from a customer. The ADSS fiber optic cable they purchased from us in March was ADSS-24B1-300-PE, but the line voltage level was 220KV. Our suggestion was to use the ADSS-24B1-300-AT specification, and the designer also suggested using the AT sheathed (electrical trace resistant) optical cable. The 23.5KM line, plus the matching hardware, was eventually fooled by an irresponsible small manufacturer due to budget issues, and the price was very low. Because they came to our factory and were very confident in us, they ordered the ADSS-24B1-300-PE specification. When signing the contract, we clearly stated the potential impact, and there were no problems with the construction upon arrival. However, the line is now broken down in several places. From the photos, it can be seen that it is obviously caused by electrical corrosion. This is also a temporary bargain, which affects the normal use in the later period. Finally, we gave a solution, which is to reconnect at the breakpoint and equip several joint boxes. Of course, this is only a temporary solution (if there are many breakpoints, it is recommended to replace the line).
